The following pictures were taken of Andersonville National Historic Site in May of 2004. The prison was built in 1864 to hold the large number of Union prisoners captured by the Confederacy. Conditions at the prison were horrific and more than 13,000 of the 45,000 prisoners held here died in captivity.

Today the park consists of the site where the prison once stood, a National Cemetary, as well as the location for the National Prisoner of War Museum.
