| HOME -> COUNTRIES -> CAMBODIA -> PREAH KAHN |
Out of the many temples of Angkor, Preah Khan is my favorite. It was built in the late twelfth centry by King Jayavarman VII. The temple is not one of the 'big three', Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Ta Prohm, so it does not get the number of visitors that those temples do. This makes it relatively quiet and a wonderful escape from the tour groups. What you get is seemingly endless corridors that feel like they stretch on forever. Connecting them are rooms which still contain treasures such as statues, empty alters and lingas. At the center of the temple is a stupa where worship still takes place. It is a wonderful place to just relax and waste the day. It is definately one of the main gems of Angkor. |
