Thailand Special Forces Units

Royal Thai Army 1st Division, 1st Regiment, 4th Battalion “Royal Guard”

Since the early 1980s, this unit, whose primary mission has been VIP protection, has held CT responsibilities for the Thai government. The 140 man unit has a two-man command staff and six assault teams, each with 23 men. These teams are further divided into 4 assault and 2 sniper teams.

Royal Thai Air Force Commando Company

This 100 man unit, part of the Royal Thai Air Force’s Special Combat Operations Squadron, has been in existence since the late 1970s. They are based near Don Muang Airport and provide anti-hijacking capabilities. They have three assault platoons, each divided into two smaller sections.

Royal Thai Navy SEALs

There is a small element within the Royal Thai Navy SEAL Teams that has been trained to conduct maritime CT missions. This unit has close ties with the U.S. Navy’s own SEAL teams.
