DHL Thailand Sucks: Part II

I finally received my DHL shipment today. This is after spending more than 10 phone calls and 2 hours on the phone with them trying to find out what is happening. My initial assessment was correct. They are complete idiots. A number of other issues have come to light. In Thailand, you are charged for each day the package sits in customs. This isn’t a problem if the package is handled promptly, but DHL was content to just let it sit there. They never even contacted me to let me know it was sitting in customs. It was only through checking the status online and phone calls to them that I was able to move things along.

They were also completely unable to explain to me where the additional fees were coming from. I ended up having to pay close to $100 US to receive my package and I still don’t know why. I have a list but it is not itemized. There are just lump sums. On top of it, they charged additional amounts for delivery charges which should be included in the shipping charge when the item was originally shipped. The only time I was ever contacted by DHL was when the delivery guy was already downstairs in my building. No attempt was made to check ahead of time if anyone was home before they attempted the delivery. This shouldn’t be a problem but it is when they need to collect money before the package can be dropped off. I should say the only reason I finally agreed to pay the charges was the relief it would bring in not having to deal with them anymore. If you want to ship anything to Thailand, use Thai Post or FedEx. It will save you a lot of trouble.
